Beauty lies in the details, the everyday, you usually pass by. Until someone reminds you of it. Such a singer-songwriter is Helge Slikker, known for his band Storybox. And singer Marlijn Weerdenburg, is just like that. Together they are Miss Molly & Me. You might call them the Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood of the Low Lands.
Influenced by great artists such as Cash and Carter, each song is a chapter, a dream, an adoration, a fear, an adventure. Miss Molly & Me stands for authentic acoustic music accompanied by harmonious vocals and subtle humor. As where Helge is the modest musician, Marlijn appears to be the femme vocale that draws the audience without hesitation into the world of Miss Molly & Me.
What that sounds like can be heard on “Rewind and Say Hello”, their debut album. Miss Molly & Me wants to tell stories as if they are performing them in your living room. As they did last year in 2010 when they enchanted the audience at theatre festival “De Boulevard” in Den Bosch. Eighteen times the sign ‘full house’ was hung on the door. Paul de Munnik also was impressed and offered them to direct their upcoming tour.
Such speed that it runs is illustrative of how things run at Miss Molly & Me. In 2009, when they met during preparations for a play of Matzer Theaterproducties, the chemistry was felt immediately between Slikker and Weerdenburg. Before they knew it they were on national television in De Wereld Draait Door, followed by the sold-out series of performances at “De Boulevard”. And now, just a year after they formed Miss Molly & Me their first record has seen the daylight:
“Rewind and Say Hello”. A tribute to the moment.http://www.missmollyandme.com/
